PACE-UP Indonesia Coordinator Reappointed as DAAD Research Ambassador During DAAD President’s Visit to Indonesia

Prof. Dr. Kartika Senjarini, Indonesian Coordinator of the DAAD-funded PACE-UP programme from the University of Jember, has been reappointed as a DAAD Research Ambassador for the 2026-2028 term. (22–23 October 2026). The reappointment took place in conjunction with the DAAD Research Ambassadors’ Meeting in Jakarta, attended by Prof. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee, President of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The meeting brought together DAAD Research Ambassadors from Indonesia and Malaysia to exchange experiences and discuss opportunities and challenges in fostering academic mobility, research collaboration, and sustainable institutional partnerships with Germany. The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening international research networks and supporting young scientists through long-term academic cooperation.

Prof. Mukherjee’s visit to Indonesia included several other important engagements. He met with Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Brian Yuliarto, to discuss opportunities for Indonesian students to pursue higher education in Germany, as well as expanding bilateral research collaboration and institutional partnerships.

Another highlight was his engagement with DAAD alumni during the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS) programme. The gathering brought together alumni from Indonesia and other Asian countries, including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Vietnam, demonstrating the international reach and long-term impact of DAAD-supported academic exchange.

For PACE-UP, these developments underscore the importance of connecting institutional research partnerships with broader international academic networks. The continued involvement of its Indonesian coordinator in the DAAD Research Ambassador network provides further opportunities to promote German–Indonesian scientific cooperation, academic exchange, and capacity building for the next generation of researchers.
